Protego Manager Training

Everything your managers need to offer, explain and support the Protego Protection Plan — the training course, the documents your tenants receive, and where to send a tenant who has a claim or wants to use their own policy.

Your Protego Rates
The three protection levels. Tenants are enrolled on the $2,000 basic plan automatically; the higher limits are there for anyone storing more.

Getting Started
Four steps, in order.
1

Watch the Protego training

Open Training and work through the course. It stops at short knowledge checks and ends with a printable certificate.

2

Have every manager and CSR complete it

Anyone who rents a unit or answers a tenant’s question should know the plan, the addendum, the claims process and the opt-out window.

3

Know the documents

Look through Documents so you know what each tenant receives, and when — from the launch letters to the move-in notice.

4

Know where to send a tenant

Claims go to ProtegoClaims.com. A tenant using their own policy goes to MyOwnPolicy.com within 10 days of move-in.

Manager & CSR Certification

Protego Training

One course, presented start to finish, with a knowledge check after each section and a printable completion certificate at the end.

What your team will learn

  • Why Protego exists — and why it’s a protection plan, not insurance
  • The three plan levels, and how to offer them at the counter
  • What the addendum records, and what happens when a tenant declines
  • What’s covered, the limits, the exclusions, and the burglary rules
  • How a tenant files a claim, and what keeps it moving
  • How a tenant opts out with their own policy — the 10-day window and the five details
The Tenant Opt-Out Process
For a tenant who already has a homeowner’s or renter’s policy that covers stored property.

They have 10 days from move-in. They upload their insurance declaration page at MyOwnPolicy.com, and it has to show all five of these:

  • An accepted insurance provider (major carriers only)
  • Their name exactly as it appears on the lease
  • A current expiration date — not expired, and not expiring within 30 days
  • Personal property coverage or an off-premises endorsement, clearly stated
  • The deductible amount, clearly shown

Anything missing and it won’t be approved. If nothing is approved within the 10 days, the tenant stays on the $2,000 Protego plan and the charge appears on their invoice. Once an opt-out is approved, the Protego charges come off their account.

Trouble with the upload? They can email the declaration page to support@myownpolicy.com — that team responds within one business day.
